Fri 08 November 2024:

A Kuwaiti government committee has revoked the nationalities of 930 individuals, pending final approval by the Cabinet, Arabi21 reported.

This marks the largest measure taken by the country to date.

The Ministry of Interior stated that the High Committee for Kuwaiti Nationality, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence and Interior, Fahad Al-Youssef Al-Sabah, took the decision yesterday.

This is the largest number of such cases, the citizenship of 489 people was revoked in October and 112 in September.

Kuwaiti news sources reported that nationality revocation affects individuals who obtained citizenship through fraud or illegal methods over the years. Those who lost their nationality include individuals who acquired another citizenship or foreign women married to Kuwaitis who did not complete the legal duration required for obtaining Kuwaiti citizenship. These women will lose their nationality until they fulfil the constitutional requirement.

The minister of the interior confirmed that those whose citizenship has been revoked have not filed objections, as the committee holds sufficient evidence to prove their ineligibility. He emphasised that the review and revocation process will continue.
