Cooperation between Russia and China will only become stronger in the current circumstances, the Interfax news agency has quoted Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as saying.
“This cooperation will get stronger, because at a time when the West is blatantly undermining all the foundations on which the international system is based, of course we — as two great powers — need to think how to carry on in this world,” Lavrov was quoted as saying.
China Indicates to Biden it Won’t Send Weapons to Russia
Chinese President Xi Jinping indicated Friday his country does not plan to send weapons to Russia in support of its brutal campaign in Ukraine, aligning with public and private demands from the Biden administration in recent days that Beijing not further fan the violence.
Following a highly publicized, two-hour call with President Joe Biden, Xi touted the need for China and the U.S. specifically to “shoulder our share of the international responsibilities and work for world peace and tranquility,” according to a Chinese readout of their exchange. More importantly for Biden, however, was other language in the readout that “conflict and confrontation are not in anyone’s interest” and that “peace and security are what the international community should treasure most.”
