LIFT YOUTUBE BAN ON RUSSIAN BROADCASTERS OR FACE HUGE FINE, KREMLIN TO GOOGLE

News Desk Tech World

Fri 01 November 2024:

The Kremlin announced Thursday that a massive fine imposed on Google is intended to encourage the U.S. tech giant to reconsider its restrictions on Russian channels on YouTube. During a Moscow press briefing, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov explained, “These demands illustrate the essence of our broadcasters’ complaints against Google. The platform should not restrict our TV channels domestically, yet it does so. This should serve as a signal for Google’s management to address the situation. That’s the best course of action.”

Local reports indicate that Google’s unpaid fines in Russia have now reached an astronomical 2 undecillion rubles ($2.5 decillion) and are growing due to late payment penalties.

In response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s criticism over Western media reports about Kyiv’s request for U.S. Tomahawk missiles, Peskov remarked, “The situation on the frontlines is quite transparent, visible to everyone in Russia and the West, and this visibility increases Kyiv’s anxiety.” He noted that Zelenskyy’s peace and victory initiatives ultimately aim to bring Western powers into the conflict.

North Korea Cooperation Grows – Nothing Unusual, Says Kremlin

Addressing speculation on North Korean soldiers potentially assisting Russian forces, Peskov pointed to a strategic partnership between Russia and North Korea that allows extensive cooperation, asserting, “We are focused on developing relations with our neighbor in all areas, which is our sovereign right.” On North Korea’s recent missile tests, Peskov refrained from commenting, indicating it as outside his purview.

US Sanction Adjustments on Russian Banks – A Case of “Economic Pragmatism”

Peskov also reacted to reports that the U.S. Treasury Department has temporarily eased sanctions on some Russian financial institutions, including the Central Bank. He noted that “Generally, the US takes a pragmatic stance when its economic interests are involved,” suggesting that these sanction adjustments reflect America’s economic priorities.
