A mass shooting occurred early on Monday in the Canadian province of British Columbia, killing a number of people, local media reported.
The city of Langley had previously experienced multiple shootings, prompting police to issue an emergency alert and ask locals to remain vigilant and keep clear of the scene.
“Multiple shooting scenes in the downtown core in the city of Langley with 1 incident in Langley township involving transient victims,” an alert sent to B.C. residents’ phones read.
A Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesperson told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp that several people were killed, but did not specify how many.
The victims were homeless, and police believe the attack was targeted, according to the CBC.
A man is now in custody following the attacks. He is believed to have acted alone, according to authorities.
In an alert sent to local residents, officers said the suspect was described as a white man wearing overalls and a camouflage T-shirt.
The Globe and Mail reported that yellow police tape surrounded a sandwich shop and a car park in Langley at the scene of one of the shootings.
