Mobile phones banned in Indian state’s universities

India’s northern Uttar Pradesh state government is said to have imposed a ban on college students carrying mobile phones to their varsities.
The decision was taken after it was observed that a large number of students and teachers were spending their valuable time on mobile phones during classes and other college hours.
The state government issued a circular banning teachers and students from carrying mobile phones in colleges and universities, confirmed a state government official.
The government’s circular imposed a blanket ban on the use of mobile phones inside universities and colleges.
The Directorate of Higher Education issued the circular to ensure a “better teaching environment for students across all colleges and universities in the state,” the media reported.
Notably, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had imposed a similar ban on his cabinet ministers, restricting the use of mobile phones during his official meetings, including cabinet meetings.
That decision was taken after some ministers and officers were found busy using WhatsApp during important meetings.
