NINE OUT OF TEN PEOPLE IN GAZA FORCIBLY DISPLACED BY ISRAELI MILITARY

Nine out of every 10 people in Gaza have been forcibly displaced amid Israel’s ongoing war on the besieged enclave, according to a new report from the UN agency UNRWA.

The relief agency highlighted that most families in Gaza have been forced to seek refuge in overcrowded schools, destroyed buildings, or even amid piles of rubbish. Many displaced Palestinians have had to create makeshift tents from scrap materials.

“None of these places are safe. People have nowhere left to go,” UNRWA stated on X, calling for a ceasefire.

Last week, Scott Anderson, deputy humanitarian coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territories at UNRWA, noted that on average, people in Gaza have had to move at least once a month. He explained that civilians often leave everything behind and lose some of their possessions each time they are forced to relocate.

UNRWA’s headquarters in Gaza was also destroyed in Israeli attacks last week. Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini condemned the attack, calling it “another episode in the blatant disregard of international humanitarian law” and emphasizing that UN facilities must always be protected.

Conditions in Gaza are deteriorating, with medical groups detecting six samples of type two polio in parts of the region due to the collapsed healthcare system and lack of clean water and hygiene facilities.

Israel’s war on Gaza has resulted in the deaths of over 39,000 people and injuries to more than 90,000 others since October.
