Wed 12 Apr 2023:
In response to a leaked American paper that claimed Cairo had a covert plan to send rockets to Moscow, the US stated on Tuesday that there is no evidence to support the claim.
According to the Washington Post, which used a piece of a top-secret document dated February 17, Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi intended to produce 40,000 rockets for Russia. According to reports, Sisi gave orders to officials to conceal the manufacturing and distribution in order to avoid problems with Western countries.
“We’ve seen no indication that Egypt is providing lethal weaponry and capabilities to Russia,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters.
Kirby said the Biden administration wants to obtain answers as soon as possible to identify where the breach took place.
The Pentagon said Friday it was investigating the unauthorized disclosure of the documents, which carry US Joint Chiefs of Staff seals and allegedly belong to the US and NATO. They were shared on social media, including Twitter and Telegram.
Separately, the Justice Department launched a criminal inquiry into the leak.
The Biden administration has frequently neglected to comment on their veracity, despite the fact that they contain details regarding the progress of the conflict in Ukraine, lists of the several nations that have donated humanitarian aid, and schedules for when supplies will be delivered to the forces of Kyiv.
