Permanent delegates of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held a meeting Wednesday at OIC’s headquarters in Jeddah to inform member states about the strategic plan to develop the vital sectors in Jerusalem, and mechanisms proposed by the Palestinian Authority (PA) to implement it.
The plan comes within the framework of following up the implementation of the decisions issued by the 14th Islamic Summit and the Council of Foreign Ministers held on May 2019.
The Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and Jerusalem Affairs, Ambassador Samir Bakr Diab, delivered a speech on behalf of OIC’s Sec-Gen, affirming the organization’s continued solidarity and support to Palestinians in protecting sanctities and obtaining their legitimate rights, including the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
He indicated that Wednesday’s meeting embodies the firm commitment and shared responsibility of member states to support Jerusalem, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The Assistant Secretary-General noted the organization’s efforts with regards to the Palestinian cause, calling for the speedy development of the strategic plan adopted by the Islamic Summit.
He also called for practical initiatives aimed at preserving the heritage of Jerusalem, its Arab, Islamic and Christian identity, and protecting the holy places in it.
Bakr Diab noted that supporting citizens of Jerusalem will ensure that the city returns as a beacon as it has been throughout the ages, according to the German News Agency.
