The number of people infected with the virus in England has increased. The agency stated that trends in Wales were uncertain, but that 1 in 45 people were infected, with a similar number in Northern Ireland and 1 in 65 in Scotland.
“Hospital admissions decreased or remained similar in all English regions, except the southeast where the rate increased in the week ending 28 November 2021,” it added.
Covid rates remained “lowest in those aged 5 to 14 years and highest in those aged 85 years and over,” according to the agency, with the biggest drops in the west Midlands and east of England.
The news comes as Britain prepares to give booster shots to all adults over the age of 18 over the next two months in response to the Omicron threat.
So far, 13 Omicron variant cases have been detected in England, with nine confirmed cases in Scotland, according to authorities. Sajid Javid, the Secretary of State for Health, admitted that the numbers would rise in the coming days.
With over 145,000 deaths and over 10 million COVID-19 cases, Britain is one of the worst-affected countries.
