Fri 25 April 2025:
More than 90% of homes in Gaza have been destroyed or damaged, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced, citing data from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), as Israel’s ongoing war on the enclave plunges civilians deeper into humanitarian catastrophe.
“With nowhere safe to go, families shelter in unsafe ruins,” the agency wrote on X and urged, “IOM has shelter aid ready—entry points must open NOW”, Anadolu news agency reported.
Since March 2, Israel has closed Gaza’s crossings, blocking essential supplies from entering the enclave despite multiple reports of famine in the war-devastated territory.
The Israeli Army resumed its onslaught on Gaza on March 18, shattering a January 19 ceasefire accord.
Israel has killed over 51,300 Palestinians in the enclave since October 2023, most of them women and children.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.

‘Dismantling’ Palestinian life
Gaza’s humanitarian crisis is compounded by Israel’s continued aid blockade, which the acting head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has described as a seeming “deliberate dismantling of Palestinian life”.
“The Gaza Strip is now likely facing the worst humanitarian crisis in the 18 months since the escalation of hostilities in October 2023,” said OCHA in its latest situation update on April 23.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health highlighted the “dangerous and catastrophic” toll on women and children facing malnutrition, with many lacking adequate food, drinking water and baby formula.
Israel’s continued refusal to let aid into Gaza defies a World Court order dating back to May 2024 for it to urgently facilitate aid into the enclave to prevent famine and starvation.
