Khan says he will follow Erdogan’s footsteps to make Pakistan economically strong
Praising Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his dynamic leadership, Premier Imran Khan vowed to follow his footsteps to steer Pakistan off the simmering economic predicaments.
“Turkey was facing way more economic difficulties until 2002 than we are facing. (Then) It was Erdogan who came into power and pulled the country out of that conditions”, Khan said in an interview with the local broadcaster ARY News on Monday. “It’s the leader who faces and handles the situation rather than surrender,” the He added.
It was not for the first time that Khan hailed the Turkish president for his economic policies. During his election campaign last year, Khan promised to follow Erdogan’s footsteps to make Pakistan economically strong. Responding to a range of questions, Khan claimed that the London-based sons of jailed former premier, Nawaz Sharif, had approached the two friendly countries to use their influence for a patch up. But, both countries refused to do that, the premier said without naming the countries.
According to local media citing unnamed government sources, the two friendly countries were Turkey and Qatar. Sharif’s right-wing Pakistan Muslim League rejected the claim. Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party — that formed the government in the wake of the July 2018 general elections — has been under fire for its poor economic policies that have propelled to record inflation and currency devaluation in recent months.
