Sat 24 October 2020:

Poland’s President Andrzej Duda has tested positive for COVID-19, an official said on Saturday.

The 48-year-old is in quarantine and feeling well, spokesperson Blazej Spychalski said on Twitter.

“The president is fine. We are in constant contact with the relevant medical services,” he said.

Duda’s diagnosis came on a day Poland tightened its virus curbs to stem a spike in infections, which have reached 228,318, including 4,172 deaths.

As part of the measures, children under the age of 16 will only be allowed to go outside with an adult from 8 a.m. (0600GMT) to 4 p.m. (1400GMT), while people over the age of 70 are advised to stay indoors.

Restaurants, cafes, and bars will only offer takeaway services for the next two weeks.

Authorities have also decided to limit gatherings and events to a maximum of five people.
