Addressing a peace committee meeting on Wednesday held at sardar kootavali CO Anuj Chaudhary, known for his controversial remarks during Holi stated if you want to serve seviyan (vermicelli) on Eid you must also eat gujiya on Holi.
“We aim to bring peace to the place where we live so that everyone has faith in us. If you want to serve Eid seviyan, you will have to eat Holi’s gujiya too,” Chaudhary said during the meeting.
“They should eat gujiya and we should eat seviyan but the problem starts when one side is willing to cooperate while the other isn’t. That is when the brotherhood breaks down,” he added.
Earlier during Holi Chaudhary had faced backlash after stating that there are 52 Fridays in a year and Holi comes only once. If someone had problems with colours being thrown at them, they should rather stay in doors.
Additional Superintendent of Police ASP Shri Chandra announced, “Namaz will only be offered at traditional places; people won’t be allowed to gather unnecessarily on rooftops and the use of loudspeakers will be regulated to avoid any inconvenience.”
People have been ordered to maintain communal harmony during upcoming festivals like Eid, Navratri and ram navami. It is not allowed to offer prayer on the street and the use of loudspeakers will also be restricted from now on,” said Vandana Mishra, sub-divisional magistrate, affirming the issued directives.
Now with new laws imposed in Sambhal during Eid on Muslim raises questions about selective restriction on muslim religious practices and festivals, drawing objections from locals, activists and critics who view this as a step towards cornering and punishing only Muslims in a place that witnessed communal unrest.
