Tue 05 July 2022:
Pope Francis has denied reports that he will step down anytime soon and says that after visiting Canada later this month, he expects to travel to Moscow and Kyiv.
A planned retirement announcement at the end of the summer “never entered my mind,” Francis added in a Reuters interview that was made public on Monday, while he reiterated that he might stand down at some point in the future like Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI did in 2013.
He revealed that his knee trouble, which has caused him to use a wheelchair for over a month, was caused by a “small fracture” that occurred when he stepped awkwardly while the knee ligament was inflamed.
He said it is “slowly getting better” with laser and magnet therapy.
Francis had planned to travel this week to the Congo and South Sudan, but he had to postpone the trip after physicians ruled that he required additional therapy. He declared that he was on the plane to go to Canada from July 24 to 30, and he added that he intended to go to Russia and Ukraine later.
