Sat 24 December 2022:
Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, has instructed the leaders of the nation’s defense sector to step up efforts to ensure that the Russian army receives all the weapons, equipment, and military hardware it needs to fight in Ukraine as soon as possible.
Putin made the remarks on Friday while visiting Tula, a hub for the production of weapons. He has described Russia’s involvement in the conflict in Ukraine as a historic attempt to rebuff what he has called excessive Western influence.
“The most important key task of our military-industrial complex is to provide our units and front-line forces with everything they need: weapons, equipment, ammunition, and gear in the necessary quantities and of the right quality in the shortest possible timeframes,” said Putin.
“It’s also important to perfect and significantly improve the technical characteristics of weapons and equipment for our fighters based on the combat experience we have gained.”
Putin stated this week that the Russian army needed to learn from and fix the problems it had in Ukraine. He also pledged to provide the army whatever it required to continue a conflict that is approaching the end of its tenth month.
Moscow has given up almost half of the land it first took since tens of thousands of Russian troops entered Ukraine on February 24 in what Putin referred to as “a special military operation.”
Almost ten months after its invasion, Russia still controls a sizable portion of eastern and southern Ukraine along a front that spans around 1,100 km (685 miles), but it has suffered a string of setbacks that have shifted the tide of battle in the direction of its less powerful foe.
The last time Russia made its casualties public was on September 21, when it stated that 5,937 men had died.
That figure falls far short of most global projections. On November 9, the top general of the United States believed that more than 100,000 soldiers had been lost or injured on either side.
