Fri 20 February 2026:

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat reiterated his commitment to Hinduism during a social harmony meeting at Saraswati Shishu Mandir in Nirala Nagar, Lucknow, on Tuesday. He called for intensified efforts toward “ghar wapsi” (reconversion to Hinduism), urging support and care for those returning to the Hindu fold.

Bhagwat expressed deep concern over the declining Hindu population, attributing it partly to forced or inducement-based religious conversions, which he said must be halted.

He advocated for Hindu families to have at least three children, citing scientific views that societies with an average fertility rate below three risk eventual decline.

He emphasized communicating this message to newly-married couples, viewing marriage as a means to sustain creation rather than mere personal fulfillment.

The RSS leader stressed the need for Hindu society to become more organized, empowered, and vigilant, asserting there is “no threat” currently but constant alertness is essential. He also addressed illegal infiltration, demanding detection, deportation of infiltrators, and denial of employment to them.

Promoting social harmony, Bhagwat highlighted Sanatan philosophy’s emphasis on unity, describing all as children of one nation and motherland. He cautioned against disruptive efforts by groups from countries like the US and China, calling for greater trust and vigilance among citizens to strengthen national harmony.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)  and Nazi Germany

India’s Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) drew inspiration from Nazi Germany stems mainly from writings and actions of its early leaders in the 1930s–1940s, during the rise of European fascism.

The RSS, founded in 1925 as a Hindu nationalist volunteer organization, adopted a paramilitary structure with uniforms, drills, and disciplined branches—elements that critics say echoed fascist youth/militia groups like Italy’s Balilla or Germany’s Hitler Youth. Historical accounts show RSS-linked figures like Dr. B.S. Moonje (a mentor to founder K.B. Hedgewar) met Mussolini in 1931 and openly admired fascist organizational models, pushing for similar Hindu military training.

The strongest cited link comes from M.S. Golwalkar (RSS chief 1940–1973). In his 1939 book We or Our Nationhood Defined, he explicitly praised Nazi Germany’s approach to racial purity:”To keep up the purity of the nation and its culture, Germany shocked the world by her purging the country of the Semitic races—the Jews. Race pride at its highest has been manifested here. Germany has also shown how well-nigh impossible it is for races and cultures… to be assimilated into one united whole, a good lesson for us in Hindustan to learn and profit by.”

He argued non-Hindus (especially Muslims and Christians) should either assimilate fully into Hindu culture or live subordinated without equal rights—paralleling Nazi exclusion of Jews.

Critics (historians like Marzia Casolari, media like The Caravan, and outlets like DW) view this as direct ideological borrowing: defining the nation ethnically/culturally as Hindu-only, treating minorities as alien threats, and admiring fascist/nazi methods for “purifying” society.

The RSS and its affiliates (including BJP) later distanced themselves—Golwalkar disowned parts of the book (claiming it was mostly a translation), and the organization emphasizes cultural revival over fascism. Supporters call the Nazi link exaggerated or selective quoting, noting RSS never endorsed genocide and focused on Hindu unity against colonial rule/partition violence.

RSS connection with Nazi Germany exists primarily through Golwalkar’s 1930s praise of Nazi “race pride” policies as a model for handling India’s minorities, plus organizational admiration for fascist discipline—though the RSS adapted these to an Indian Hindutva context.
