RUSSIA HAS “NOTHING TO DO” WITH BELARUS-POLAND MIGRANT CRISIS, PUTIN SAYS

On Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that his country has “nothing to do” with the migrant issue at the Poland-Belarus border.

“Everybody is trying to make us responsible for something at every given opportunity,” the Russian president lamented. 

The Russian president hoped for a “direct dialogue” between EU and President Lukashenko of Belarus and the. Putin stated that Merkel and Lukashenko are eager to talk “as I understood.”

Putin went on to say that Lukashenko had not spoken to him about the possibility of halting Europe’s gas supplies, and that “he didn’t even hint.”

Putin’s comments come after Belarus and Russian troops conducted military drills with near Poland.

Belarus stated the drill was held because “build-up of military activity” near the border had increased. According to reports, two Russian paratroopers were killed when their parachutes malfunctioned during the drill.

Hundreds of migrants gathered at the Polish border to gain entry into Europe, but were forced back by Polish military, prompting the EU to blame Lukashenko for the migrant issue.

Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin spokesman, had previously blamed the EU for the migrant crisis, claiming that “Europeans’ reluctance to demonstrate commitment to their European values”.

Kremlin slammed comments made by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who claimed that Russia was to blame for the immigration problem. It was “absolutely irresponsible” and “unacceptable.”
