Wed 07 September 2022:
Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, stated on Wednesday that if the EU gives the go-ahead, Moscow is prepared “to switch on” the Nord Stream II pipeline to transport gas to Europe “tomorrow.” Anadolu Agency reported.
Putin claimed that launching Nord Stream only requires the push of a button while speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.
He continued by saying that the building of the pipeline was not “for nothing,” as Russia had mastered new technologies and skills.
The same thing is true about the Nord Stream I pipeline, it can be put into operation very quickly, he said.
Russian energy company Gazprom is waiting for the gas pumping turbine to resume deliveries, he added.
“Give us the turbine — tomorrow we will turn on Nord Stream,” he said.
The Russian president refuted accusations of “energy blackmail,” pointing out that Ukraine closed one line of the gas pipeline, pumping fuel to Europe “under a far-fetched excuse.”
Poland sanctioned another Russian pipeline, which led to the situation where only one gas pipeline — Nord Stream I — remained in operation, he added.
Putin stated that Russia would look to expand its Asian market.
According to him, deliveries to China and Mongolia are currently moving forward thanks to an agreement between the parties on all key factors, including prices.
Russia has squeezed the flow of natural gas to Europe in recent months as relations have deteriorated sharply over the country’s invasion of Ukraine in late February.
In July, Gazprom cut the flow of natural gas through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline into Germany to just 20% of capacity.
