Ukraine claims strike on Crimean oil terminal

Ukraine said Monday that it targeted an oil terminal in Crimea, a region annexed by Russia in 2014 in a move condemned internationally as illegal.

In a statement, Ukraine’s General Staff announced that the country’s Armed Forces and other defense components struck the marine oil terminal in Feodosia, a port city located about 150 kilometers (93 miles) northeast of Sevastopol, the largest city on the peninsula. The statement reported a fire near the terminal, which it described as the largest in Crimea for transshipping petroleum products.

The statement further alleged that the terminal serves Moscow by supplying resources to the Russian military.

Igor Tkachenko, the Russian-installed mayor of Feodosia, confirmed on Telegram that a fire had broken out at the terminal and said a state of emergency had been declared in the city.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed it shot down 12 Ukrainian drones over Crimea overnight, although it did not address the reported attack on the oil terminal.
