SAMI HAMDI ‘ABDUCTED’ BY ICE DURING US SPEAKING TOUR

Prominent British Muslim journalist and critic of Israel, Sami Hamdi, has been detained by US immigration and had his visa revoked following an online smear campaign by far-right Zionist propagandists and Islamophobes.

In a post shared on X, Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has Mr Hamdi in custody after being stopped and arrested by ICE at the San Francisco International Airport.

“Thanks to the work of Secretary Kristi Noem and Secretary Marco Rubio and the men and women of law enforcement, this individual’s visa was revoked and he is in ICE custody pending removal.

“Under President Trump, those who support terrorism and undermine American national security will not be allowed to work or visit this country. This individual’s visa was revoked and he is in ICE custody pending removal.”

Mr Hamdi spoke at a gala for the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Sacramento, California on Saturday and was scheduled to speak again on Sunday at one of the group’s events in Florida as part of a speaking tour of the States.

CAIR’s Washington branch blasted the arrested and released a statement calling on ICE to immediately release the “abducted” journalist, claiming he was detained simply due to his criticism of Israel.

“Abducting a prominent British Muslim journalist and political commentator on a speaking tour in the United States because he dared to criticise the Israeli government’s genocide is a blatant affront to free speech.

“Our attorneys and partners are working to address this injustice. We call on ICE to immediately account for and release Mr. Hamdi, whose only ‘crime’ is criticising a foreign government that committed genocide.

“Our nation must stop abducting critics of the Israeli government at the behest of unhinged Israel First bigots. This is an Israel First policy, not an America First policy, and it must end.”

Zionist smear campaign

The arrest of Hamdi came after a sustained campaign by American-based pro-Israel activists on X who attempted to smear Hamdi as a “jihadi” and “terror supporter” who posed some kind of threat to US national security.

It was also being alleged that Sami Hamdi was a member of or supporter of the Islamic group, the Muslim Brotherhood.

Laura Loomer and Amy Mek, notorious far-right social media influencers who boast over a million followers on X between them, have posted relentlessly about Hamdi ahead of the arrest.

After the news broke of Hamdi’s “abduction”, Mek and Loomer began celebrating online, claiming credit for the arrest.

Loomer also posted: “We did it Amy Mek! More to come. A certain Muslim Brotherhood 501c3 isn’t going to have their guest speaker tonight in Florida. How sad for them… ICE if you need a location for your next raid, check out Tampa, Florida tonight.”

Loomer is a far-right Zionist commentator and conspiracy theorist who became prominent for her support for Trump and the MAGA movement.

She has publicly described herself as a “proud Islamophobe” and called Islam a “cancer on humanity.”

She has been banned or suspended from multiple online platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter over hateful comments to minority communities.

Loomer is thought to have the president’s ear, even though Trump’s campaign and administration have previously sidelined her over her controversial antics.

The father of Sami Hamdi, author and journalist Dr. Mohamed Elhachmi Hamdi, rubbish claims that his son has links to the Muslim Brotherhood in a post on X.

“I affirm unequivocally that he has no affiliation with the Muslim Brotherhood or any political or religious group. His stance on Palestine is not aligned with any faction there, but rather with the people’s right to security, peace, freedom and dignity. He is, quite simply, one of the young dreamers of this generation—yearning for a world with more compassion, justice, and solidarity.”

CAIR claims to have previously called on Secretary of State Marco Rubio to address allegations that he spoke directly with the “anti-Muslim extremist” Laura Loomer before banning Palestinian children injured by American weapons in Gaza from seeking medical care in the US.

According to CAIR, a day after Loomer posted videos on social media complaining about children from Gaza arriving in the US for medical treatment and questioning how they obtained visas, the State Department said it was halting all visitor visas for people from Gaza pending a review.

In a tweet posted at the time, Loomer thanked Senator Rubio for halting the visas. The New York Times reported that Loomer said she spoke with Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday night to alert him to the flights and what she called the threat of an “Islamic invasion.”
