Middle East

Sun 31 May 2020:

Advisor to the Saudi Royal Court and Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabiah confirmed that the humanitarian needs of the Yemeni people are a priority to Saudi Arabia.

Al-Rabiah also pointed out that the Kingdom is the biggest donor for relief projects in Yemen.

In a statement reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), al-Rabiah expressed hope for peace in Yemen, stressing that Saudi Arabia is working hard to help find a political solution in accordance with the three references represented in the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference and the relevant Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216, asserting the Kingdom’s concern for the interest of the Yemeni people and its security and stability.

Al-Rabiah’s statement coincided with preparations for a Yemen donors conference scheduled for June 2.

He expressed hope that the conference will enjoy attention from the international community and donors worldwide, despite the economic crisis and the coronavirus pandemic, and that the goals of the conference would be reflected on the ground in Yemen.

Al-Rabiah affirmed the Kingdom’s keenness on the interest, security and stability of the Yemeni people, praising Saudi Arabia’s support for international initiatives to reach a permanent solution leading to stability in Yemen.

KSRelief Spokesman Samer al-Jutaili, in statements previously made to Asharq Al-Awsat, confirmed that more than 120 regional and international bodies will participate in the upcoming conference, where several initiatives are expected to be presented for the 2020 humanitarian response plan for Yemen.

“We hope that the conference will achieve its goal to support the Yemeni people at this important stage, and among the most important participating countries are the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Britain, and the European Union countries, as well as the United Nations organizations,” al-Jutaili said.
