Wed 20 July 2022:
On Monday, Snapchat announced that for the first time, a new web app would enable features like video calling and chatting on desktop computers.
According to a statement from the company, Snapchat for Web is a new way for “our community to stay connected through our camera when they’re at their computers.”
The web platform will initially only be accessible to users of Snapchat Plus in the US, the UK, Canada, as well as Australia and New Zealand.
“We can’t wait to bring it to our entire global community soon,” said the platform that has nearly 332 million users.
Snapchat for Web will only be compatible with Google’s Chrome browser and not Apple’s Safari at the launch.
“With more than 100 million Snapchatters using our voice and video calling each month on average, we’re excited to offer a new way for our community to keep conversations going on their computers,” said Snap, the parent company of Snapchat.
Along with Lenses, which will soon be available, Snapchat for the Web includes popular messaging features like Chat Reactions and Chat Reply.
Last month, the social media site Snapchat announced that its Snapchat Plus, a collection of premium features that are exclusive, experimental, and in pre-release, is now $3.99 per month.
The US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE are among the countries where it is sold. Over time, Snapchat will add more countries to the Plus feature.
