Sat 01 June 2024:
Elon Musk announced that SpaceX aims to make space travel accessible to everyone, with plans for journeys to the Moon and Mars. Musk stated that SpaceX is on track to handle over 90% of Earth’s payload to low-Earth orbit this year.
“Over time, SpaceX will enable anyone to go to space and travel to the moon and Mars,” the tech billionaire posted on X social media platform.
SpaceX’s Falcon rocket is currently nearly 80% reusable, and the company’s Starship rocket aims for nearly 100% reusability. Starship is expected to land astronauts on the Moon during NASA’s Artemis 3 mission in 2026.
Starship has completed three test flights, with a fourth anticipated to launch soon, possibly by June 5, pending regulatory approval. The upcoming test aims to demonstrate the ability to return and reuse the Starship and Super Heavy booster, with goals including a soft splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico and a controlled entry of Starship.
Meanwhile, SpaceX’s satellite-based internet service, Starlink, has surpassed 3 million customers across 99 countries, with recent expansions to Indonesia and Fiji.
