Sat 13 July 2024:
A comprehensive study analyzing over two decades of data from nearly 400,000 participants in the United States suggests that long-term daily multivitamin use does not improve longevity in healthy adults.
Approximately 33% of US adults take daily multivitamins, believing they may help prevent disease and contribute to a longer, healthier life. However, previous research has not provided sufficient evidence to support this belief, reported Medical News Today.

The new NIH study aimed to evaluate the association between multivitamin use and mortality related to chronic diseases, particularly cardiovascular disease and cancer. It also sought to identify potential factors and biases influencing this association.
The study found no significant difference in multivitamin use based on race, ethnicity, or family history of cancer. Moreover, researchers discovered no evidence that regular multivitamin use improves longevity among healthy adults. In fact, the analysis revealed a 4% higher risk of death for daily multivitamin users compared to non-users.
Medical experts recommend consuming a variety of nutrient-dense foods, such as berries, legumes, carrots, and dark leafy greens, instead of relying on supplements to maintain health and promote longevity.
