Mon 13 December 2021:
According to Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid, the Taliban will discuss with Islamic scholars on women’s rights, including the prospect of their involvement in the country’s governance.
Theologians will offer their perspectives on disputed matters, and the Taliban will continue to govern Afghanistan based on their decisions on women’s rights, Mujahid stated on Sunday, according to Tolo news.
Meanwhile, civic activists in Afghanistan, particularly those working on women’s rights, believe that female theologians should be included in the consultations, as this would improve women’s access to labor and education.
The Taliban published a decree on women’s rights at the beginning of December, recognizing that women are not property and cannot be coerced into marriage. The decree made no mention of women’s rights to education or employment.
