Mon 20 September 2021:
At Sunday’s Primetime Emmy Awards, Netflix’s “The Crown” was the major winner, taking home seven awards, the most of any show.
The success of that show aided Netflix’s ascension to the top of all the networks and streaming services. It won ten accolades, with “The Queen’s Gambit” winning two awards, including best limited series, and “Halston” winning one.
Cedric the Entertainer, with the help of Rita Wilson, LL Cool J, and Lil Dicky, opened the night with a karaoke rendition of Biz Markie’s “Just a Friend.”
The audience, which comprised approximately 500 nominees and guests, got involved as well, standing up, clapping, and singing along. For the first hour of the ceremony, the excitement was evident as “Ted Lasso” won two acting awards in a row, prompting impassioned speeches from first-time winners Hannah Waddingham and Brett Goldstein.
