Mon 15  August 2022:

The CEO and founder of Telegram has officially made the feature available, a day after Pavel Durov said that an update had been under review by Apple for two weeks.

The latest version, in accordance with Durov, is jam-packed with emoji-related functionality. One is absent, though, as the IT giant specifically asked for its removal.

The CEO and founder of Telegram stated on his Telegram channel that “After extensive media coverage of my previous post, Apple got back to us with a demand to water down our pending Telegram update by removing Telemoji — higher quality vector-animated versions of the standard emoji.”

Durov said it is a puzzling move on Apple’s behalf because Telemoji would have brought an entirely new dimension to its static low-resolution emoji and would have significantly enriched their ecosystem.

“But it is good for Telegram long term, as we will now make Telemoji even more unique and recognisable. Besides, we have included 10 other emoji packs in today’s update — together with the ability for any user to upload their own emoji,” Durov said.

To make custom animated emoji easier to access, Telegram now turns the sticker shortcut in a chat box into an emoji shortcut as you type. This brings up the new emoji panel, where you can view existing emoji packs or add new ones. You’ll also see all packs in emoji suggestions when you type certain emoji shortcuts like a smiley.

Telegram has also made interactive custom emoji available in one-on-one chats. Simply tap “to play synchronized, full-screen effects.”

The service’s Premium version, which debuted in June, is adding a new way to reach more subscribers. Premium users can now send a prepaid subscription for three, six or 12 months to anyone. Plus, the gift is discounted.

As usual, Telegram is big on privacy, so it’s adding a new way for Premium users to control who can send them voice and video messages. They can adjust this setting to allow everyone, their contacts, or nobody to bother them with voice chats.

Telegram said it is the first company ever to have implemented this in a mobile app.

In a few weeks, users will be able to add any custom emoji as a reaction to a message and display an emoji as their current status next to their name.

The company also mention that the new update will become available to Premium subscribers first.
