THANKSGIVING ONLINE SHOPPING IN U.S. JUMPS TO RECORD $5.6B

Americans spent $5.6 billion on online shopping on Thanksgiving Day, an increase from 5.5% last year.

According to data from Adobe Analytics, consumers spent $5.6 billion on things like clothes, electronics, jewelry and toys while about $3.3 billion of the shopping happened over mobile devices, an all-time record for Thanksgiving.

The $5.6 billion spent on the holiday nearly twice as much as the $2.87 billion that is spent by consumers on 2017 Thanksgiving, according to analysis by the company.

“Cyber Week is off to a strong start with Thanksgiving driving a record $5.6 billion in online spend as consumers took advantage of strong discounts and continued their shopping plans, virtually,” said Vivek Pandya, lead analyst, Adobe Digital Insights, in a statement.


“Mobile shopping hit an all-time high, as shoppers took to their smartphones to get the best deals during holiday gatherings, further solidifying mobile’s growing importance in e-commerce,” Pandya added.


The amount spent for online shopping is expected to further increase during the “Black Friday.”
