Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the development of a standardised COVID-19 vaccine passport to make it easier for Canadians to travel overseas.
The digital document, which was shown on Thursday, will include a QR code that can be scanned at airports, train stations, and other entrance points.
“As Canadians look to start travelling again, there will be a standardised proof-of-vaccination certificate,” Trudeau said, urging Canadians who have not done so to get vaccinated as soon as possible. “We can end this pandemic and get back to the things we love.”
According to government authorities, the proof-of-vaccination certificate will feature a Canadian identifying mark and will fulfill major international smart health card criteria.
It will contain information such as a person’s name, date of birth, and COVID-19 immunization history, including how many doses they received and when they were immunized.

According to Our World in Data, a tracking group based at Oxford University, more over 73 percent of Canadians are completely vaccinated against COVID-19.
Beginning November 30, Canadians will be unable to board a plane for international or domestic travel without a proof-of-vaccination certificate, according to the Toronto Star newspaper.
The national government will pay for rolling out the standardised vaccination passport, Trudeau said. “We will picking up the tab.”
