Tue 13 August 2024:
Former US President Donald Trump returned to X on Monday after nearly a year of absence. The comeback coincides with sagging poll numbers, a situation intensified by Vice President Kamala Harris’ formal nomination as the Democratic presidential nominee.
In his first post since August 24, 2023, Trump shared a campaign video filled with news footage and audio clips, laying the groundwork for what he described as a “live conversation” with X CEO Elon Musk, set for 8 pm Eastern Time (0000 GMT).

“This is unscripted with no limits on subject matter, so should be highly entertaining! If you have specific questions & comments, post them under the chat,” Musk wrote on X, recently expressing his full support for Trump.
It’s uncertain whether Trump plans a full return to X or is merely building up to his “live conversation with Musk.” Nonetheless, he made several posts following his campaign video, including a query directed at Americans: “Are you better off now than you were when I was president?”

He further asserted, “Our economy is shattered. Our border has been erased. We’re a nation in decline. Make the American Dream AFFORDABLE again. Make America SAFE again. Make America GREAT Again!”
Trump also reshared a campaign message and a promotional image for his Monday evening talk with Musk.
This uptick in X activity comes as Trump confronts increasing polling challenges, especially after US President Joe Biden withdrew from the race and endorsed Harris as his successor.
According to a new survey released by the New York Times and Siena College on Saturday, Harris now holds a significant lead over Trump in three key battleground states – Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin – alongside rising favorability numbers for the vice president.
Additionally, a poll from the Financial Times/Michigan Ross released Monday shows Harris gaining traction among voters on a critical issue: the American economy. The survey revealed that 42% of voters trust Harris to manage the economy, slightly surpassing those who express the same confidence in Trump.
