TRUMP WARNS IRAN OF ‘STRONG HIT’ FROM US AFTER VENEZUELA ACTION

Middle East World

Mon 05 January 2026:

Trump has warned Iran that it would be hit “very hard” if more protesters are killed during demonstrations over deteriorating living conditions.

Trump told reporters on board Air Force One late on Sunday night: “We are watching the situation very closely, and if they start killing people like they have done in the past, I think they are going to get a very strong hit from the United States.”

The Iranian Foreign Ministry responded, saying this morning: “Statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and hardline American officials regarding the internal situation in Iran promote terrorism and violence.”

It added: “The Zionist entity is waiting for any opportunity to strike at our national unity.”

Trump on Friday said that if Iran shoots and kills peaceful protesters, the US would intervene.

Iran slams US actions as ‘colonial-era thinking’

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Iran’s relations with Venezuela are based on mutual respect and shared interests, stressing that this principle will continue to guide Tehran’s foreign policy, during his weekly press conference.

Responding to reports suggesting that US officials have spoken about taking control of Venezuela’s affairs, Baghaei said such remarks reveal the true motives behind Washington’s actions.

“In the past decades, interventions were justified under slogans such as democracy and human rights. Today, they openly say the issue is Venezuela’s oil,” he said.

“Claims that another country can run Venezuela are unacceptable to any nation, including the Venezuelan people, and reflect a return to colonial-era thinking.”

Baghaei said he has already spoken with his Venezuelan counterpart and emphasised that Tehran will take all necessary measures to protect Iranian interests and citizens.

“Economic relations and financial claims between countries do not disappear with political changes or government transitions,” he added.

“Iran’s claims and investments in Venezuela remain valid and are being pursued through relevant institutions.”
