Sun 02 June 2024:

Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur advanced to the French Open quarterfinals for the second time with a hard-fought 6-4 6-4 victory over Denmark’s Clara Tauson on Sunday, and she celebrated by singing with her fans.

World number nine Jabeur broke the 72nd-ranked Tauson’s service in a close third game and nearly dropped her own shortly after in a marathon 26-point game, but she held firm and won the first set.

The 29-year-old Tunisian gained the lead in the second set with a stunning passing stroke, but was unable to maintain it and had to wait until the fifth game to break again when Tauson committed two unforced errors.

During her post-match interview on court, Jabeur swung her arms and bounced up and down while singing along with spectators, later revealing that the song was a mix of Arabic, French, and Italian that she loosely translated as “it’s incredible, step by step to the final”.

Jabeur, looking for her first Grand Slam trophy after placing second at Wimbledon and the US Open last year, will play world number three Coco Gauff in the quarterfinals.
