Wed 13 September 2023:
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday met head of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Wednesday.
No more information was provided about the closed-door meeting held at the presidential complex.
The visit is the fifth foreign trip by al-Burhan, who is Sudan’s army chief, since a war erupted between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group in April. He earlier visited Egypt, South Sudan, Qatar, and Eritrea.
Al-Burhan accompanied by acting Foreign Minister Ali Al-Sadiq, Director of the General Intelligence Service Ahmed Ibrahim Mufadel, and Director General of Defense Industries System Mirghani Idris Suleiman, according to a statement from Sudan’s Sovereign Council.
The Turkish side has yet to issue any statement on the two leaders’ meeting, which came amid prolonged conflict between the SAF and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the African country.
The clashes in Khartoum and other areas since April 15 resulted in over 3,000 deaths and more than 6,000 injuries, according to the Sudanese Health Ministry.
More than 3 million people have been forced into displacement, inside and outside the country, since the conflict broke out in Sudan, according to UN estimates.
