Wed 13 July 2022:

According to a UNHCR study, around two-thirds of Ukrainian refugees expect remaining in their host countries until hostilities end and the security situation after Russia’s invasion improves.

According to a poll of almost 4,900 Ukrainians living in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia, the majority of refugees from Ukraine, primarily women and children, aspire to someday return home. Between mid-May and mid-June, the survey was carried out.

UNHCR says more than 5.6 million refugees are now recorded across Europe, with nearly 8.8 million people crossing out of Ukraine and nearly 3.3 million crossing back in since the Russian invasion on Feb. 24.

“They are anxious to reunite with friends and family and worry about those who stayed behind. Most want to wait until hostilities have subsided,” the report released on Wednesday said.

According to UNHCR, among those intending to return, 40% expected to do so within the next month. They also noted that more refugees from Kyiv, the country’s capital, and other western regions were planning to return than refugees from the east and north.
