TWO US NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERS WOUNDED IN WASHINGTON, DC SHOOTING

Two US National Guard members were shot one block from the White House in Washington, DC.

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey says he’s received “conflicting” reports about the guardsmen’s health, after earlier posting on X that both had died of their wounds.

Local police say a suspect is in custody, while the FBI says it is assisting with the investigation into the incident.

President Trump, who is in Florida at his West Palm Beach golf course, has been briefed on the matter, authorities say.

US President Donald Trump has weighed in on the shooting that left two National Guard members wounded near the White House, posting a message on his Truth Social platform shortly after the incident.

Trump referred to the suspected gunman as “the animal that shot the two National Guardsmen,” adding that the shooter will “pay a very steep price”.

“God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great People,” Trump wrote. “I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!”

The shooting will be treated as an assault on a federal enforcement officer, FBI director says
At a briefing Wednesday afternoon, FBI Director Kash Patel said the two National Guard members who were shot in Washington D.C. are in critical condition.
Patel said the crime will be treated at the federal level as an assault on a federal law enforcement officer. “Please send your prayers to those brave warriors, who are in critical condition, and their families,” he said. “They are here serving our country.

Hegseth says Trump has asked for 500 more troops in Washington, DC

US Secretary of Pete Hegseth has said that Trump has asked for 500 additional troops to be deployed to Washington, DC after two national guard members were shot, according to the Reuters news agency.

Hegseth was speaking from the Dominican Republic where he also said that the US was aiming to deploy more troops to the Caribbean region, where US military presence has been considerably escalating in recent weeks.
