Fri 19 July 2024:

Uganda’s coffee exports achieved the highest foreign exchange earnings in three decades, driven by improved quantity and quality, according to the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA).

In the fiscal year 2023/2024, the country earned $1.14 billion from coffee exports, a significant increase from $846 million the previous year. Uganda exported 6.13 million bags of coffee, up from 5.76 million bags, reflecting a 6.33% increase in quantity and a 35.29% rise in value.

The UCDA stated that Europe remains Uganda’s largest export market, followed by Asia, North America, and Africa. The increase in yields is attributed to better production and post-harvest handling practices.
