Thu 16 October 2025:
Planning is under way for an international stabilisation force to go into Gaza, the Reuters news agency reports.
“Right now what we’re looking to accomplish is just a basic stabilization of the situation. The international stabilization force is starting to be constructed,” it quoted an unnamed “senior US adviser” as saying.
Among the countries the US is speaking to about contributing to the force are Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar and Azerbaijan, another unidentified official said.
“What we’ve said very clearly is that aid is going in, but no rebuilding money will go into areas that Hamas controls,” the adviser said. “We’re looking at starting to rebuild in areas that right now are Hamas-free, terror-free zones.”

Indonesia has expressed willingness to contribute troops. During his speech to the UN General Assembly last month, President Prabowo Subianto repeated his country’s offer to send soldiers to Gaza if the UN authorised the mission.
The proposed force is an international mission designed to secure and rebuild Gaza.
Its main goals are to maintain security, oversee the disarmament of Hamas, train Palestinian security forces, and support the transition to a new governing authority while enabling humanitarian aid and reconstruction.
According to the US 20-point peace proposal, the force will develop and train a Palestinian police force, which will become a long-term internal security body.
The police force would be expected to ensure security with Israel and neighbouring Egypt.
After an Arab-European meeting in Paris last week that focused on plans for post-war Gaza, French caretaker foreign minister Jean-Noel Barrot said an international peacekeeping force is expected to move into Gaza as the Israel military withdraws in phases.
The UN Security Council is expected to work on a resolution in the coming weeks that would set up a mandate for the force.
Earlier on Wednesday, President Donald Trump said the US military would not directly take part in the disarmament of Hamas.
Turkiye emphasises readiness to join task force in Gaza
Tukiye says the Turkish Armed Forces are ready to join a multinational task force to be established in Gaza as per Trump’s ceasefire plan, National Defence Minister Yasar Guler said.
Guler said important sessions were held at the NATO defence ministers meeting yesterday, including discussions over the alliance and its ongoing humanitarian efforts, according to a statement from the ministry.
“Our satisfaction with the ceasefire achieved in Gaza and our hope that it will mark the beginning of a fair two-state solution, the importance of ensuring the full implementation of the ceasefire and uninterrupted humanitarian aid. Turkiye’s commitment to continuing its humanitarian support and the readiness of the Turkish Armed Forces to take part in the multinational task force to be established in Gaza,” Guler said.
Left-wing Italian opposition parties support plan to deploy stablisation force to Gaza
Italian opposition parties, including the centre-left Democratic Party (PD) and the left-wing Five-Star Movement (M5S), have supported the government’s plan to deploy troops to Gaza as part of a peacekeeping mission, according to Italian news agency ANSA.
The PD said it supported the mission but criticised the government for being “invisible during the destruction”.
Similarly, M5S leader Giuseppe Conte said Italy could play a role in Gaza as they have “professionals who are consistently recognised around the world”.
“With a capacity for dialogue and the extraordinary ability to build a peace process with the local populations,” said Conte.
Last week, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said they are ready to send soldiers to Gaza as part of an International Stabilisation Force, outlined in US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan.
“We can send the Carabinieri (national gendarmerie), we can send army troops. We have Carabinieri who are already in Palestine, so they know the territory,” Tajani said.
