VIDEO: ‘IS ALLAH DEAF’, QUESTIONS INDIA’S RULING BJP LEADER OVER AZAAN ON LOUDSPEAKERS

Former Minister and BJP MLA K.S. Eshwarappa has stirred a fresh controversy in Karnataka by stating that “does Allah listen only if the Azaan prayers are played on loudspeakers”.

Speaking at a rally organised as part of the Vijay Sankalp Yatra on Sunday, Eshwarappa said, “Will Allah listen only if the prayers are done through loudspeakers”.

The statement went viral on social media on Monday.

Senior BJP leader and former minister KS Eshwarappa was addressing a public gathering when Azaan – meaning a prayer call – went out from a mosque nearby. “Wherever I go, this (Azaan) gives me a headache,” Mr Eshwarappa said. “Supreme Court’s judgment is due, if not today, this call for Azaan will come to an end.”

The BJP leader then questioned if Allah will listen to prayers only if loudspeakers are used during Azaan. “In temples, girls and women offer prayers and bhajans. We are religious, but we don’t use loudspeakers. If you have to call for prayers using loudspeakers, it means Allah is deaf,” he added.

Eshwarappa, who has also served as a deputy Chief Minister, is no stranger to controversies. He earlier sparked a row when he referred to 18th century Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan as a “Muslim gunda”.

Karnataka BJP MLA issues clarification

After backlash, the MLA issued a clarification and said that his remarks were not meant to condemn religion. He also said, ‘Allah can hear but these Muslims put three to four mics’.

The MLA further said that students who are preparing for examinations get disturbed whenever they listen to Azaan.
