Thu 02 May 2024:
A new account restriction feature that WhatsApp has introduced is seen in the most recent Android beta version of the messaging app.
In the last two years, the Meta-owned app has completely transformed.
The user experience has been refined finely from new chat category separation to simpler group video calls. Moreover, the tech giant plans to introduce a convenience feature for all its users this time, according to Mobile App Daily.
The new feature is set to be released in a future update and will temporarily block users from chatting with other users if they violate some WhatsApp policies.
Users breaching specific WhatsApp policies will be shortly cut off, as shown in the new screenshots provided by WABetaInfo. After restriction, users will not be able to start new chats for a designated time period.
However, ensuring that essential communication remains intact, the restricted users will still have the capacity to receive and respond to messages.
To detect various forms of abuse, including spam-like behaviour, bulk messaging, and other activities violating its terms of service, WhatsApp has automated tools.
Due to the platform’s end-to-end encryption, these tools independently operate message controls instead of relying on behavioural patterns to mark suspicious activities.
A balance between enforcing policy compliance and preserving user access is aimed to be upheld by this account restriction feature.
Moreover, WhatsApp will let users an opportunity to rectify their behaviour without forfeiting access to their data entirely by choosing short restrictions over the permanent ones.
In-app dialer
Whatsapp is reportedly developing an in-app dialer that allows users to make calls directly from the app without saving a number.
The Meta app’s users could not find data or connect without saving the numbers until now. This barrier was kept in place to protect users from unknown callers and keep personal information safe from them.
However, with WhatsApp’s new feature of an in-app dialer, it can be used as a default dialer, meaning that it will extend connectivity to unsaved numbers.
According to each user’s privacy settings, personal information like profile pictures, usernames, and others will still be visible only after saving the contact number.
The in-app dialer feature is being tested in the WhatsApp Beta version. It will be offered to a limited number of users within the Beta program.
