Tue 25 October 2022:

Due to a shortage of semiconductors, Volvo Cars will temporarily halt production at its Gothenburg factory in Sweden starting on Monday, according to the company, which was quoted by local media on Tuesday.

According to the Goteborgs-Posten newspaper, production will stop for at least a week.

The supply problems have lingered since they first emerged as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, Volvo Cars spokesperson Merhawit Habte told the newspaper. “We are continuously monitoring the situation.”

Volvo Cars said that it will strive to recuperate the lost production once the problem is solved.

As of December 2021, the company, which was acquired by Chinese automaker Geely in 2010, employed about 41,000 people full-time. Gothenburg and Ghent in Belgium, South Carolina in the United States, Chengdu, Daqing, and Taizhou in China are where it has production facilities.
