On Ukraine’s Independence Day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared that the conflict initiated by Moscow has now come back to haunt Russia. Speaking from the Sumy region, Zelenskyy reflected on the ongoing war, which began 913 days ago, and its impact on both nations.
Zelenskyy Vows Retaliation: ‘Ukrainian Response Will Reach Any Source of Danger’
Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine’s countermeasures against Russia will be “worthy, symmetrical, and long-ranged,” ensuring that any threat from within Russia’s borders will be met with a decisive response. He also affirmed that Ukraine will not allow its territory to become a “grey zone” and rejected any “red lines” imposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
As Kyiv’s forces push into Russia’s Kursk region, Zelenskyy acknowledged the operation aimed at establishing a buffer zone to protect Ukraine from Russian attacks. This incursion, beginning on August 5-6, saw Ukrainian forces enter the town of Sudzha, just 10 kilometers from the border, a move Putin condemned as a “terrorist attack.”
