Wed 10 July 2024:
WhatsApp has launched a new feature, “context cards,” designed to address the issue of receiving group invites from unknown users. This feature aims to protect users from being added to groups by strangers and from falling victim to online group scams.
When you receive a group invite from someone not in your contacts, a context card will appear, providing additional information about the group. This includes the group’s creation date, a brief overview of its purpose, and information about the person who created it. While the information may be limited, it can help you decide whether to join the group.
The feature also offers protection against online group scams by allowing users to report, block, or leave the group immediately if they remain unsure about the inviter’s intentions.
WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart announced the feature on his channel within the app. The context cards are currently being rolled out globally and will be available to all users within the next few weeks, as stated in a press release by WhatsApp.
AR effects, filters, backgrounds
Meta has brought in three new interesting features to WhatsApp, making the messaging app more convenient and fun to use.
The filter tab will offer features like softening skin textures, lightening blemishes and reducing fine lines, among others.
The filters will hide all imperfections and touch up the skin to make it look more polished without making it look fake. A low light mode feature will help improve the video quality in poorly-lit environments.
Likewise, clicking on background tab will open up several backgrounds ranging from tropical islands to furnished office rooms. This feature is designed keeping in mind remote work settings and will come in handy when users don’t want to show what’s behind or simply to add a touch of fun to video calls.
