Thu 22 May 2025:
WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will limit the number of broadcast messages users can send per month to curb spam and promote more thoughtful use of the broadcast feature.
The new feature is currently available for beta testers via the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.14.15 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, WABetaInfo reported.
This new broadcast messaging update introduces a dedicated “broadcast management” section within the app’s settings, providing users with a centralised overview of their broadcast lists, and offering details on usage, including the number of messages sent and the remaining allowance for the current month.

This update signals a potential shift in how Meta’s popular instant messaging platform approaches one-to-many communication.
Currently, the popular Meta-owned instant messaging app is testing a restriction that limits users to sending a maximum of 35 broadcast messages per month. However, this value may vary depending on the user account type, region, or other factors that are not currently known.
The cap may not be final, and WhatsApp could adjust it before the broader rollout.
This restriction encourages users to rely on more modern and scalable communication tools. For example, WhatsApp offers status updates, allowing users to share content with all their contacts without sending limitations.

In addition, WhatsApp Channels are designed for one-to-many communication, making them ideal for sharing updates with a large audience.
The new feature also seeks to reduce the risk of spam and promote more thoughtful use of the broadcast feature.
Furthermore, WhatsApp is also developing a feature for business users that will allow them to extend their monthly broadcast limit through a subscription plan.
Even with this option, businesses are still encouraged to consider alternatives like status updates and channels, which are effective and already well-integrated into the app.
The new feature will be rolled out to even more people over the coming weeks.
