Mon 13 May 2024:
WhatsApp, the widely-used messaging app owned by Meta, is undergoing a significant makeover, as announced by the platform on Thursday. In an Instagram post, the company revealed its plans to introduce design updates aimed at providing users with a more contemporary and user-friendly experience. The goal is to enhance the app’s usability while retaining its familiar interface.
The updates include a refreshed layout and new icons designed to facilitate quicker navigation. Additionally, users can expect to see new illustrations with animated elements to enhance the overall user experience. These design enhancements will be gradually rolled out to users over the coming weeks, with WhatsApp assuring that the changes will be subtle yet impactful.
With over 2 billion active users globally, WhatsApp is taking steps to ensure that these updates are well-received. The app’s existing interface has played a significant role in its popularity, and the company is keen on maintaining usability while introducing improvements.
In addition to the design updates, WhatsApp announced on May 9 that it would be introducing changes to the calling screen interface. These changes include the addition of a “minimise” button to simplify call navigation and redesigned buttons for improved visibility and usability at the top of the screen.
Furthermore, WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows users to control ongoing audio calls from anywhere within the app. This feature enables users to mute or end calls directly from a new bar that appears at the top of the screen when a call is minimised.
These updates are currently available for beta testing, indicating WhatsApp’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its features and user experience.
