WhatsApp, the Meta-owned app, is working on a new feature which will restrict users from taking screenshots of profile pictures on iOS.

While there is no foolproof way to prevent screenshotting WhatsApp, it is essential to exercise caution when sharing sensitive information on messaging apps to protect your privacy.

A message will appear on the screen notifying users that taking screenshots of profile photos has been blocked, as can be seen in the picture shared by WABetaInfo.

This is being initiated to protect everyone’s privacy on the app.

By blocking users from capturing and sharing profile photos without the owner’s consent, this option will offer an extra layer of privacy protection, as per the report.

Though, people may still take the image with other devices or cameras but blocking the screenshot feature within the app will definitely lessen the unauthorised sharing of profile photos.

Without permission by stopping users from taking screenshots, this Meta app’s feature will be helpful in reducing the risk of profile photos which can be misused or distributed.

Moreover, WhatsApp is also testing a new feature that will offer users a “filter”, which will quickly get a list of their favourites from the chats tab on Android.

Why to Block Screenshots on WhatsApp?

There are several reasons why to stop someone from screenshotting on WhatsApp.

Firstly, it can help protect the privacy of the user and their contacts. If someone shares sensitive information or personal pictures on their WhatsApp Status, they may not want others to save or share them without their consent.

Secondly, it can prevent the spread of fake news or inappropriate content. If users cannot take screenshots of a WhatsApp Status, they are less likely to share it with others.

Finally, it can help prevent cyberbullying or harassment. Overall, blocking screenshots on WhatsApp can provide peace of mind and protect users from the negative consequences of social media misuse.
