Sat 13 May 2023:
Bobi, a farm dog in Portugal, has attained a significant milestone. Guinness World Records (GWR) has named it the world’s oldest living dog. Bobi turned 31 on Thursday, and its owner announced a special party to commemorate the event.
Rafeiro do Alentejo was born on May 11, 1992, and currently resides in the Leira area of Portugal with its owner Leonel Costa. Bobi’s birth date has been validated by the Servico Medico-Veterinario do Municipio de Leiria (Leiria Municipal Veterinary Medical Service).

The owner also shared details about the party
According to GWR, he has invited 100 fans and friends to his birthday party on Saturday. They also include people from other countries.
“Looking at him is like remembering the people who were part of our family and unfortunately are no longer here, like my father, my brother or my grandparents who have already left this world,” Costa told Guinness. “Bobi represents those generations.”

Bobi, who only eats human food, was ordered local meats and fish to share with guests, some of whom will fly internationally to enjoy the festivities.
“We’ve had a lot of journalists and people come from all over the world to take a picture with Bobi,” Costa, 38, said of how Bobi’s life has changed since earning his records. “They’ve come from all over Europe, as well as the USA and even Japan.”
Costa said he has owned several old-aged dogs in the past, including Bobi’s mother, Gira, who lived to the age of 18. However, he never imagined that any of his dogs would reach their thirties.
Life has been hectic for Bobi since the dog was awarded his Guinness World Record title in February.
“We’ve had a lot of journalists and people come from all over the world to take a picture with Bobi,” said Costa.
“They’ve come from all over Europe, as well as the USA and even Japan,” he added.
Bobi, according to the 38-year-old owner, has been in good health in recent months, however it was recently taken to a veterinarian for a check-up.
Bobi replaces Bluey as the record holder for the Oldest Dog Ever. Bluey, an Australian cattle dog, died at 29 years and 5 months in November 1939.
Bobi did have a health scare in 2018, but he emerged from the ordeal in good health. Today Bobi has some of the eyesight and mobility issues that have come with age, but things haven’t been too ruff.
