YOUTUBE ENHANCES PRIVACY MEASURES TO COMBAT DEEPFAKE CONTE

YouTube is enhancing its user privacy protections to address Deepfake content, which involves AI-generated manipulations of faces or voices. The platform now allows users to report any content that misuses their face or voice through AI. This update is part of an improved privacy complaint process, providing users with a form to report such content.

Announced in a blog post, YouTube’s expanded privacy request process specifically targets AI-generated content. Users can report Deepfake content that misuses their identity. YouTube will evaluate these requests by considering factors such as the content’s alteration, potential for being mistaken as real, identifiability of the requester, and whether the content is parody or satire involving well-known figures.

This decision follows an increase in Deepfake content cases on YouTube. The updated privacy complaint process allows users to report any channel, though this will not result in automatic Community Guidelines strikes. A privacy complaint will not directly lead to a strike against a YouTuber.

Google’s actions acknowledge the rise in Deepfake incidents and aim to protect individuals from misuse of their faces and voices in AI-generated content. Recently, Deepfake videos of Bollywood celebrities like Sara Tendulkar and Rashmika Mandanna have gone viral on social media.

Additionally, YouTube plans to introduce a feature offering AI-powered live chat summaries for English-language channels with active chat sessions. This feature will display a banner summarizing key comments and interactions, helping viewers stay updated during busy live streams.
