Sun 14 August 2022:
In order to allow viewers to subscribe to rival streaming services, Google-owned YouTube is developing an online store similar to Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video. The new platform could be made available as early as this fall.
The YouTube “Channel Store” will let users select streaming services within the main YouTube app, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
The company has already begun discussions with entertainment businesses about taking part in the YouTube marketplace.
The YouTube online store “has been in the works for at least 18 months”.
YouTube TV already has this capability for HBO, AMC+, Showtime, and many others.
“YouTube is discussing splitting subscription revenue with streaming partners, although the terms may vary widely for each partner,” the report mentioned.
Since “consumers may see clips of series or movies for free on YouTube and then easily pay to subscribe to the service,” the new YouTube channel store would be a great marketing tool for streaming services.
For the first time in 2020, YouTube discussed establishing an online streaming video store.
Walmart also intends to upgrade its membership program’s benefits by including streaming services.
Netflix and other streaming services will be part of Verizon’s new Plus Play subscription manager.
