YOUTUBE TO INTRODUCE CONTEXTUAL ‘NOTES’ FEATURE FOR VIDEOS

In case you missed it Most Read Tech

Mon 17 June 2024:

YouTube announced on Monday that it will soon allow users to add ‘notes’ to provide context on some videos. This new feature will initially be rolled out in the United States. Selected users and creators will be invited to participate in the test phase, writing notes designed to offer “relevant, timely, and easy-to-understand context.”

Examples of notes include clarifying when a song is a parody, indicating the availability of a new product version, or correcting the portrayal of old footage as a current event. This feature is similar to Social media platform X’s Community Notes, which adds context to posts with tags like “misleading” and “out of context.”

Initially, the notes feature will be available on mobile to U.S. users in English. Third-party evaluators will rate the helpfulness of the notes during this phase to train the system, with a potential broader rollout planned, according to YouTube.
