Mon 25 July 2022:
The tech behemoth Google is introducing a new feature to its Meet app that will enable users to livestream meetings to YouTube.
The company claims that an admin can do this by choosing “Live Streaming” from the meeting’s Activities panel.
According to AndroidCentral, users can then choose their channel to start streaming the meeting they are holding.
Google explained that live streaming “is useful in situations where users want to present information to large audiences outside of their organisation, allowing them to pause and replay as needed, or view the presentation at a later time”.
Its help page explains that when host management is on, only the host and co-hosts can begin livestreaming the meeting. If that option is off, anyone attending the meeting can start livestreaming it. Google also provides a privacy option if someone is interested in livestreaming the meeting.
According to the report, a feature like live meeting streaming appears to be another attempt by Google to diversify and distinguish Meet from competing platforms.
The rollout of the new feature will happen in phases. The first is “rapid release,” which will roll out to a few domains starting on July 21 and taking three days to complete.
The second will apply to domains that will undergo a “scheduled release” over the course of up to 15 days starting on July 25.
